magnetic lines of force
- Within a magnetic field, imaginary lines whose tangent at any given point represent the direction of said magnetic field at that point. Magnetic lines of force are utilized to represent the magnetic field surrounding a magnetic body or entity, such as a permanent magnet or a medium carrying a current. The closer together the lines, the greater the strength of the magnetic field. Also called magnetic lines of flux, magnetic flux lines, magnetic force lines, lines of force (2), or force lines (2).
