magneto-optic effect

  • A phenomenon, such as the Faraday effect, in which an electromagnetic wave interacts with a magnetic field.
  • For plane-polarized light reflected from a highly-polished pole of a strong magnet, the rotation of the plane of polarization. The rotation is proportional to the strength of the magnetic field. Also called magneto-optical Kerr effect, Kerr magneto-optical effect, or Kerr effect (2).
