A working-class vulgarism dating from the days when these components constituted the standard British meal, as advertised in cafés, boarding houses, etc. (Veg is short for vegetables and is spoken with a soft ‘g’.) Meat has been a slang synonym for the penis, as well as for human sexuality in general, since at least the 16th century.
