  • A mixture of ceramic and metallic components to obtain a material which combines properties of both. For example, an electric element may combine the dielectric characteristics of a ceramic such as porcelain, with the conductive qualities of a metal such as chromium. Used, for instance, in film resistors. Also called cerametal, cera-mal, ceramet, or cermet.
