- noun a breed of cattle found in Portugal. The animals are dark brown in colour, with horns coloured white with black tips. Mirandas are bred for meat and for draught.
- satellite of Uranus discovered by Kuiper in 1948. The innermost of the five major satellites, Miranda is about 160km across and orbits 130,000km from Uranus in a circular 1.4 day orbit. Its surface is scarred by heavy faulting which has so far not been explained. It has even been suggested that Miranda may have been smashed into pieces by an asteroid impact and later reassembled by gravitation.
