  • An undesirable pattern consisting of wavy lines which at times can be perceived as flickering. It may occur when two repetitive graphic patterns with fine details are superimposed. Such images can appear, for instance, on a computer monitor, a TV screen, or a printed sheet. A specific example is a herringbone pattern. Also spelled moire pattern. Also called moiré.
