  • An electrical or electronic device, instrument, or system which provides navigational information such as the exact current location, heading, speed, or height, or that otherwise guides, orients, or warns. Examples include beacons, distance-measuring equipment, navigation systems such as loran or electra, and the GPS. In a more general sense, this term would also include items such as charts and landmarks. Also spelled navigation aid.
