  • noun a disk drive that is part of another computer on a network, but it can be used by anyone using the network


  • In a communications network, a disk drive which is accessed by multiple nodes. This contrasts with a local drive, which is located at a specific user's node, or a remote drive, which is that of a computer other than that of a given user, but is not necessarily used by multiple nodes. Also called networked drive.
