  • For a specified bandwidth, the ratio of the total noise output to the total noise input for a given component, circuit, device, piece of equipment, or system. It is the additional noise a component, circuit, device, piece of equipment, or system adds. Usually measured at a noise temperature of 290 K. When expressed in decibels, also called noise figure, although the terms are often used synonymously.
