Non-Baryonic Matter

Definition

Astronomy

  • Proposed form of matter consisting of atoms whose components are not the protons, neutrons and electrons found in the material familiar on Earth. Non-baryonic material has been proposed as a candidate for dark matter. Prime suspects are neutrinos, which may prove to have a small but significant mass, contrary to the long-held view that they are massless.
