  • A modular approach to the design and development of programs, in which independently prepared and self-contained units, or objects (3), are combined to form the final product. Such an approach emphasizes flexibility and scalability, and generally focuses on the problems which wish to be solved, as opposed to how tasks will be performed. Its abbreviation is OOA. Also called object oriented (1).
