  • A frequency band in which the ratio of the upper frequency limit to the lower frequency limit is 2 to 1. When making acoustic measurements, ten bands may be utilized, with the following approximate center frequencies: 31.5, 63, 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, and 16000 Hz. The 1000 Hz octave band, for instance, comprises frequencies ranging from about 707 Hz to 1414 Hz. Also called octave frequency band.
