  • suffix the suffix, seen in slang since the late 1960s, confers a sense of the pseudo-scientific or pathological on the preceding word or part of a word. It is invariably also pejorative, and as such performs as a negative version of the neutral ‘-ish’ or ‘-esque’. Examples are ‘Ramboid’, ‘bozoid’ (from bozo), ‘trendoid’ and zomboid.
