  • Nickname for the Middlesex Music Hall in Drury Lane,London. The name referred to the original building on the site, the17th-century Mogul Tavern, which had an association with Nell Gwynnwho had lived nearby. The Mogul Saloon began to present entertainmentin 1847 and was renamed the Middlesex Music Hall in 1851. The venuewas rebuilt in 1872, 1891, and 1911, when it was renamed the New MiddlesexTheatre of Varieties. music hall and revue dominated the programmeuntil 1919, when the theater, now known as the Winter Garden, wasused for musicals.
