    Lionel Bart's musical adaptation of the Dickens classic OliverTwist. First produced in 1960 at London's Albery Theatre, it ranfor 2618 performances with Ron Moody as Fagin and striking sets bySean Kenney (1932 - 73). Moody also appeared in the 1968 filmversion and returned for a 1983 revival at the Aldwych Theatre. Afurther revival, produced by Cameron Mackintosh and directed by SamMendes, opened at the London Palladium in 1994, with Robert Lindsayas Fagin. Mackintosh also produced the 2009 revival at Drury Lane,which starred Rowan Atkinson.

    Bart's free adaptation follows the orphan Oliver from thecruelty of the workhouse, through his experiences in the underworldwith Fagin and his gang of pickpockets, to eventual happiness witha wealthy grandfather. The songs include 'Food, Glorious Food', 'Oliver','Consider Yourself', 'I'd do Anything', 'You've Got to Pick a Pocketor Two', and 'As Long as He Needs Me'.
