oriental mustard

  • The name of a variety of annual and biennial, often coarse-leaved plants, Brassica juncea, with seeds the same colour as white mustard, grown in Japan for use in cooking and as a condiment. The leaves which come in various colours and textures are cooked as a vegetable or eaten raw in salads when young and are becoming popular in the west. The flavour of the leaves becomes stronger as they age.
