overrun brake

Definition

Construction

  • A brake fitted to a towed vehicle, such as a concrete mixer to a trailer. It operates as soon as the towing truck slows down and the towed vehicle tends to push into it. Movement of the towed vehicle applies the overrun brake, making safe high-speed towing possible. See also overriding brake.
