Electronics

  • To go beyond or exceed that which is necessary, desired, or expected. For example, a momentary excursion of a pulse or parameter outside of set limits, as might occur when turning on a device. Also called overthrow (1).
  • In an analog indicating device, a momentary excursion of the pointer beyond the value to be indicated. Proper damping minimizes this. Also called overswing, or overthrow (2).
  • The extent to which overshoot (1) or overshoot (2) occurs.
