  • An edible wild mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, with a short stalk on one side of the smooth bare oyster-like cap which is up to 15 cm in diameter and blue-grey when young. It grows on the trunks of deciduous trees and has a rather tough, juicy flesh with no smell but a slightly fishy flavour. Now cultivated.
