  • A type of folk play performed at Eastertide in the northwest of England.It took various forms but usually featured a blackface character named OldTosspot, who solicited gifts of eggs or money from the audience while his followers sang and danced. Other popular characters included Lord Nelson,Betsy Brownbags, and Paddy from Cork. Some versions incorporate elements borrowed from the Christmas Mummers' Play.
