  • A rule of thumb that applies in a variety of settings. For instance, roughly 20% of the features of a given application are used about 80% of the time, or about 80% of the failures or defects of a given product such as a chip are due to the top 20% or so of causes, among countless examples. Also called 80/20 rule.
