Pavai Kathakali



  • A type of Indian glove-puppet theater, in which the puppetsare designed and decorated to resemble characters of the Kathakalidance-drama. Performances are rare and usually held on religious occasions.The puppets stand 12 to 18 inches tall and have wooden heads and hands.They are operated by teams of four or more puppeteers from the villageof Kavadi Parambu in the Palghat district. The stories come from theMahabharata and follow its narrative sequence.
