peg it

Definition

Slang

  • verb to die. The first version of the phrase is currently more fashionable than the earlier peg out, which appeared in the USA in the mid-19th century, inspired by the use of pegs in the game of cribbage (‘pegging-out’ was finishing the game). The form peg out may also mean to collapse exhausted or fail in one’s efforts.
