  • An Australian statutory body that makes recommendations and gives advice to the Minister of Health about which drugs and medicinal preparations should be made available as pharmaceutical benefits. No new drug may be made available as a pharmaceutical benefit unless the Committee has so recommended. The Committee is required by the Act to consider the effectiveness and cost of a proposed benefit compared with alternative therapies (not just placebo).
