  • A TV feature in which a second picture, occupying a given portion of the viewing screen, may be seen at the same time as the main picture. The source of the second picture may another input, such as that of a DVD or VHS, or in the case of a TV equipped with two-tuner picture-in-picture, another channel. Its abbreviation is PIP.

  • noun a facility on some televisions for showing a small screen view of another channel over the top of the main picture.
