Food

  • A comparatively recent development of grapefruit, some varieties having occurred naturally and other having been produced by irradiating seed (e.g. rio red). All are characterized by a red pigmentation of the flesh and in some varieties, of the rind. The pigment is lycopene (as in tomatoes) and is produced by prolonged high temperature.
