pigmented orange

Definition

Food

  • A type of sweet orange which develops red pigmentation (anthocyanins) in the flesh adjacent to segment walls and near the flower end. The flavour is distinctive and is sometimes said to resemble that of a raspberry or cherry. As they require low night temperatures to develop the red colour they tend only to be grown in the Mediterranean and similar climates.
