  • verb (to) stink. The word is of uncertain origin but may derive from a similar Romany (gypsy) verb.

Theater

  • Actors' slang meaning to ad lib or improvise, especially when one has forgotten one's lines. The Shakespearean actor-manager F. R. Benson (1858 - 1939) was famous for his ability to pong in perfect blank verse. The term was first recorded in the late 19th century and is now archaic.
