- A component, circuit, or device which is utilized to provide an output which is a desired fraction of the input potential difference. For instance, a resistor, variable resistor, tapped resistor, or combination of resistors with taps, movable contacts, or junctions may be utilized for this purpose. Also called voltage divider.
