Poverty and Health

Definition

Health Economics

  • Poverty and ill-health are intertwined. Low-income countries tend to have worse health than richer ones. Within either, poor people have worse health than richer ones. Causality runs both ways: poverty breeds ill-health, and ill-health keeps poor people poor and can make well-to-do people poor (mainly in the US).
