  • An amplifier designed to provide an output power which is much greater than the input power. Such an amplifier is utilized to deliver power to a load, such as a loudspeaker. When there are multiple amplifiers, or amplifier stages, the power amplifier is the final, or output amplifier or stage. For example, it is the stage of a transmitter that feeds an antenna. Its abbreviation is PA. Also called main amplifier.
