power spectral density

  • For a given bandwidth of electromagnetic radiation consisting of a continuous interval of frequencies, the total power divided by the specified bandwidth. Usually expressed in multiples of watts per hertz, such as mW/Hz, or kW/Hz. Used, for instance, to analyze the power content of complex signals. Its abbreviation is PSD. Also called spectral density, spectral power density, or spectral energy density.
