  • In epidemiology, the proportion of people with the target condition in the population at risk at a specific time (point prevalence) or time interval (period prevalence). It is commonly used by practising physicians to refer to the probability that a patient has a particular condition after the application of the physician's intuition or a clinical prediction rule but before ordering a diagnostic test.
