  • An early work by the Russian-born French playwright ArthurAdamov. It was first performed in 1953, when Roger Planchondirected it at the Théâtre de la Comédie, Lyons;it was produced in English translation in 1962. The play, a strikingexample of the Theatre of the Absurd that shows the influenceof both Kafka and Strindberg, was based on a dream. It centres onthe plight of a university professor who comes under attack for 'obscene'behaviour. This short play remains Adamov's best known and most frequentlyrevived work.
