putz

Definition

Slang

  • noun a foolish, clumsy or unfortunate person. The word is the Yiddish for ‘ornament’ used as a synonym for the male member, hence prick. Despite its (little-known) origin, putz is a relatively mild term of abuse in English; in Yiddish it still carries more pejorative overtones.
