- noun a small slice of quartz crystal that vibrates at a certain frequency when an electrical voltage is supplied, used as a very accurate clock signal for computers and other high precision timing applications
Electronics
- A clock which incorporates a quartz-crystal oscillator, whose natural oscillation frequency determines the accuracy of the timepiece. Such a clock can have an analog or digital display, and may have an error of less than 0.1 second per year. Also called quartz crystal clock, or crystal clock.
