radio repeater

  • A device, location, or system which receives, amplifies, and transmits radio-wave signals between locations such as terrestrial communications stations, between terrestrial communications stations and communications satellites, or between other communications satellites. Such repeaters provide high-capacity communications links, can be combined to offer a very wide coverage area, and may transmit TV, telephone, and data signals, among many others. A one-way repeater works in one direction, and a two-way repeater in both. Also called radio relay, repeater (2).
