- Located in RAM at all times. Said of programs which are never swapped or otherwise removed from main memory. Certain portions of the operating system, and applications that require immediate access are memory resident. Some programs, such as virus-scanning applications, may be marked as memory resident by a user. Also called RAM-resident program, memory resident, or resident program.
