rambunctious

Definition

Slang

  • adjective lively, troublesome, loud. A facetious invention elaborated from rumbustious. The term has been in use since the early 19th century and is probably Irish or American in origin, although the invention of such jocularities (as in the 19th-century ‘obstrepalous’ and the recent ‘spondicious’) was paralleled in Britain.
