randomicity principle

Definition

Astronomy

  • Notion that a singularity producing emissions of matter and energy does so entirely at random, rather than obeying a predictable set of rules about the balance between the two. Hawking first outlined the Randomicity Principle, which arises because at a singularity the familiar laws of physics, including the partition laws about the distribution of matter and energy, lose their usual meaning, along with spacetime itself.
