raver

Definition

Slang

  • noun an unrestrained, hedonistic person. An archetypal 1960s term which originated in the 1950s among bohemians and beatniks, when it was applied to frequent attenders of all-night parties and jazz clubs, etc. In the later 1960s the already slightly dated word epitomised hippy abandonment to euphoria. Since 1986 the term has referred to devotees of rave culture.
