- Each of the sets of numbers which locates a point on a plane or in space, according to a rectangular coordinate system. If there are two planes, for instance, then a point is located by specifying the position in reference to each of the axes, one that is usually horizontal and denominated x, and one that is usually vertical and denominated y. Also called Cartesian coordinates.
