  • A signal with a specified current, voltage, amplitude, frequency, or the like, against which other signals may be compared. For example, in adjusted decibels the established reference noise power level is usually -85 decibels above 1 milliwatt. Also called reference signal level.
  • A level which serves as a basis for comparison. For instance, that of a given terrain, or a baseline.
