return to zero

  • A data-encoding method in which the signal returns to a zero state between sent bits. For instance, ones may be represented by a positive voltage and zeroes by a negative voltage, with a zero-voltage condition between successive bits. Used for digital data transmission. Also called return to zero encoding, or return to zero code.
