Roger Blin



  • (1907 - 84) French actor and director, who was originallydrawn to the theater because he believed that acting might help himto overcome his stammer. During the 1930s Blin worked with CharlesDullin, Antonin Artaud, and Jean-Louis Barrault; after thewar he became closely associated with the avant-garde, directing playsby Adamov, whom he virtually discovered, Genet,whom he greatly popularized, and Beckett. The French languagepremiere of Waiting for Godot (1953), was directed by Blin,who also played the character of Pozzo. Blin was also noted for designinghis own sets, a practice he considered integral to the directorialprocess.
