Computing

  • noun a standard that defines how serial devices are connected together for multipoint communications. This standard, approved by the EIA, supports higher rates of data transfer than the older RS-232C standard and allows more connections to one line than the RS-422 standard.

Electronics

  • A standard interface for serial communications similar to RS-422, but supporting more nodes per line. Also called EIA/TIA-485, or TIA/EIA-485.
