• A genre of Sri Lankan puppet theater that is believed to havedeveloped from the Nadagama folk theater in the early 19thcentury. The stories and songs come from the Nadagama and are setto traditional Hindustani tunes. The dolls are three- to four-feettall and are manipulated by strings held by puppeteers sitting ona ledge above the stage. The acting area is divided into three sections,each with a black curtain.
