  • Abbreviation of Super audio CD. A CD format which offers significantly higher audio quality as compared to standard CDs. SACD uses Direct Stream Digital to provide a sampling rate in the MHz range, a frequency response that extends from 0 Hz to over 100 kHz, and a dynamic range that exceeds 120 dBs. SACD may be in a stereo or multichannel format. Also called SACD format.
