  • A network of sewage-effluent-filtering trenches incorporating perforated pipe or drain tiles surrounded by fine sand sandwiched between coarse aggregate, and equipped with an underdrain to remove whatever material has passed through. The trenches are used to remove solid or colloidal material that cannot be removed by sedimentation.
