  • A form of Korean masked dance-drama, also called Kamyon-guk,which has many local variations. The sandae-togam was originallythe authority in the Choson court that supervised and controlled allforms of entertainment. The modern dance-drama is derived from ritualsformerly used to exorcize evil spirits, ensure a plentiful harvest,and bring health and happiness to the population. It involves vigorousdancing, traditional gestures, singing, jesting, and commentarieson everyday life. A musical accompaniment is provided by string, woodwind,and percussion instruments.
